Acceptable Use Agreement

Welcome to our Community Operating System, CommunityOSTM! We are very pleased to be of service to you. Please read this document carefully as it describes the appropriate use of this system, your responsibilities, and our limits of liability.

By using the public, unrestricted areas of CommunityOSTM, or by requesting access to the secured areas of CommunityOSTM, and by using access codes given to you, you agree to the terms of this document.

This is an agreement between the user ("you") and The Employment netWork ("the Partnership") and its software licensor, VisionLink, Inc.

The purpose of this system, as part of a larger education and research endeavor, is to assist community partners in their effort to better prepare young people for success in an increasingly demanding economy. As such, the CommunityOSTM system provides tools to describe, search for, match, and collect information about quality internships, job shadowing experiences and other activities, and about schools, students, and workplaces that link the worlds of work and learning. Students, parents, teachers, employers, and others related to these linkages between work and learning may request access to this system.

Access to this CommunityOSTM system (or any of the sub-systems, PathFinderTM, NextStepTM, TapestryTM) is a privilege, not a right, and as such the Partnership has sole discretion concerning appropriate use and access--its decisions are final.

The inclusion of information within CommunityOSTM does not imply endorsement by the Partnership, member school districts or by any other business or organizational partner. Further, the Partnership and its members are not responsible for the accuracy of information, neither for the damage or loss of any information included here, nor for any limitations on access to that information across the Internet or by other means.

All information posted to and contained within CommunityOSTM, including user accounts and user-posted information, not explicitly owned or copyrighted by others, becomes the property of the Partnership.

The use of CommunityOSTM for illegal, inappropriate, or unethical purposes is prohibited.

In addition, you agree that you will not:

    1. Enter information known to be false or misleading.
    2. Contribute or distribute information that could be construed as discriminatory, offensive, or inflammatory.
    3. Post or distribute copyrighted materials without explicit and appropriate permission from the proper source/s. Nor will you attempt to acquire or modify in any way copyrighted materials available through CommunityOSTM.
    4. Access, post, or distribute information that includes inappropriate or profane language, or obscene or pornographic material in any form.
    5. Post or distribute personal communication in a public forum without the original authorâs prior and specific consent.
    6. Impersonate another person or another registered user. Nor will you compromise another userâs anonymity or pseudonyms.
    7. Attempt to access, modify, or damage files, passwords or other data belonging to others, including the software and hardware components that make up the CommunityOSTM system.
    8. Allow any other person to use your access codes to access any part of the system.
    9. Share your access codes with any other person. Students may share their codes with their parents or legal guardians and with their teachers, counselors, and other appropriate school and youth organization staff. Similarly, Partnership staff may share student access codes with the parents, legal guardians, teachers, counselors and other appropriate persons working in support of the student.

As a user of CommunityOSTM, you understand that email and other materials posted within or transmitted through the system are not private. System operators and those responsible for maintenance, upgrades, and other software and hardware components have access to all content processed by and stored by CommunityOSTM. Material relating to or in support of, illegal activities may be subpoenaed or reported to appropriate authorities.

As a user of CommunityOSTM you are responsible for damages to equipment, network systems, software and data resulting from deliberate or willful acts on your part.

Violation of this user agreement--as determined solely by the Partnership or VisionLink, Inc.--may result in the loss of your access privileges. Further, illegal use of CommunityOSTM or its software or hardware components, intentional deletion or damage of files or information, or violations of copyright or theft of services may be reported to appropriate legal authorities for prosecution.

The Partnership makes no warranty of any kind, whether expressed or implied for the service it is providing through CommunityOSTM, for the information found within the CommunityOSTM system, or concerning the information acquired, accessed, or transmitted through CommunityOSTM. Similarly, the owners and licensors of CommunityOSTM, VisionLink, Inc., offer no warranty of any kind, expressed or implied for this service, the applicability of its components, their security, or for any damages incurred by any user (see the software license for further restrictions).

The Partnership and VisionLink, Inc. are not responsible for any damages, delays, or harm of any kind to you caused by, or related to, your use of CommunityOSTM, including any damages resulting from any inaccuracy or loss of data, or from any delays, nondeliveries, mis-deliveries, or service interruptions caused by their own negligence or by your errors or omissions.

This service is provided "as is" and you use this system and its information at your own risk.
